Done with a DON! Tom's Workers laying down some tracks for the Sea Train back in the day. I just wanted to capture the dynamic between the master shipwright and his two apprentices because I love Franky's backstory. Tom is also my favorite out of all the mentor figures in One Piece (yes, even more than Hiluluk and Kureha =gasp= ), kickass.
Wooh! I spent the whole day on this like a loser and I gotta say, I don't think I let myself down on this one. Sure, I'm still bad at using photoshop, but as far as my skills go I think I made good use of them here. I like doing ocean scenes even though rendering water is really hard. Somebody mentioned on the scrap that the composition was a little left-heavy so I tried to balance it more by shifting the clouds over making the track more prominent. I hope it helped. The drawing itself I was totally in love with, so even though I wanted to get a painterly look, I couldn't really color over my lines... I don't think I'll ever have the guts to go through with it. There's only one thing that sort of bothers me about the pic but I won't bring it up since people probably won't notice anyway.
"But Mr. Tom - my goal is still you after all! Please come back and teach me some more, Because one day I want to build a dream ship too - A dream ship that can sail the unknown waves with a don to the ends of the earth."
=sniff=
I am so sorry Frankruiz! I will finish your picture very soon!
I can't decide which I like more, the sketch or with the colors here. I like each of them for different reasons ... of course, don't let that get you down about the colors I just have an unhealthy love of plain ole' sketches.
- Either way, still love this pic. Not something that you see fanart of from the series too often which makes me like it even more.
